Context
The definition of preservation plans for movable and integrated objects of Industrial Heritage must be based on a conservation diagnosis. Only in this way can a detailed understanding of the state of preservation of a given collection be obtained, and what intervention needs will be identified. Within the scope of the IH4Future project, the conservation and restoration diagnosis of movable and integrated objects was addressed, considering a set of equipment from the Vale de Milhaços Gunpowder Factory - Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum (FPVM-SEM), representative of the specific characteristics of industrial heritage, such as its superlative size, the multiplicity of materials, and the different operating conditions. The conservation and restoration of industrial heritage is a relatively recent topic when compared to other areas of cultural heritage, such as painting and sculpture. For this reason, the discussion on diagnostic and intervention methods is a pressing issue. To contextualize this theme, the main current issues in conservation and restoration must be identified.
