Participates in various works of conservation, restoration and masonry, including: Jardim do Passo (Castelo Branco), Old Cathedral of Idanha-a-Velha, Monastery of Jeronimos (Lisbon) Monastery of St. Maria da Vitoria and Mother Church (Batalha), Church of Santa Clara (Santarém), University of Coimbra. He has been working in sculpture with wood, iron and mainly with stone. Participates regularly in solo and collective exhibitions and public contests. He is the author of the blog EscultArte and collaborates with Archeofactu in the field of the conservation and restoration of stone materials and in the production of stone reproductions.

Specialization in the treatment of wet organic archaeological materials, Musée Cantonal d'Archéologie, Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Former responsible for the assembly and management of the Laboratory of Conservation and Restoration, National Museum of Archaeology. Ex-member of the Board of the Professional Association of Conservators-Restorers of Portugal. Former responsable for interventions of conservation and restoration at Archeofactu (until 2023). Current Good Practices Coordinator in the Collections Department, Museums and Monuments of Portugal EPE.

  • Rui Catalão

    Lisboa, Portugal, 1977

    Degree in Graphic Design, IADE Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication/European University, Postgraduate in Strategic Marketing and Management for Innovation, Portuguese Catholic University. Teacher of Graphic Design, Lisbon School of Design and IADE. He began working at several leading newspapers in Portugal (Diário de Notícias, A Bola, Independente), becoming graphic coordinator at Euronews. Tired of newspapers, he embraced his greatest passion, branding, in 2000, at the ID studio (Wolff Olins/BBDO). In 2002 he created BÁ Studio, having developed story telling processes for brands such as Oniway, Helvetica, Lacoste, Quebramar, Ponto Electrão, Serra Lopes, Douglas among others. Currently, as founder and responsible for Atelier Rui Catalão, he develops work in the fields of branding, digital and design. Responsible for designing the Archeofactu website.

Founder of Fullcycle to support companies in managing sustainable manufacturing. Co-founder of 4 startups in the environmental impact products sector. Mentor of several startups in entrepreneurship programs in Portugal and in the United States of America. Collaborates with Archeofactu in reproducing original cultural pieces indirectly.

Develops its activity as a jewellery engraver in the production or restoration of precious metal artefacts, including the patterns in relief modelling. Collaborates with Archeofactu in the execution of silver and gold artefacts, which require chiselling work.

As an industrial technician worked in ceramic paste, glaze and engobes, laboratory control and manufacturing. As a member of a team specialized in Conservation and Restoration, collaborated in campaigns for the Archaeological Study of Recent Prehistoric from the Vale Tifónico, Caldas da Rainha (Provatis). Erasmus Fellow, Italy. Conservator-Restorer, National Museum of Archaeology, Culture-Employment Programme. Former conservator-restorer for Archeofactu (2005-2023).
