George Lake's tomb, 19th c., Bombarral

2008 Conservation and Restoration

At the bicentenary’s celebration of the Battle of Roliça*, a treatment of conservation and restoration was done in the stone tomb erected in the Serra do Picoto (Bombarral, Estremadura), in memory of the Lt.-col. George Lake, by his fellow officers from the 29th Worcestershire Regiment, who fought with him.

* The first battle of the Peninsular War between the General Delaborde French troops and the Portuguese and British troops led by Bernardino Freire and Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington.
