Our Lady and the Child, Forte da Cruz, Estoril

2012 Conservation and Restoration

Sculpture of Our Lady and the Child made of limestone micro-crystalline/white marble (?), coping stone for base and niche made of limestone micro-crystalline azulino, embedded in the building of the Forte da Cruz* in Estoril. Work done under coordination of Eduardo do Carmo, stone conservator-restorer.

* The Forte da Cruz (Fort of the Cross) was built by the endings of the 19th, over the ruins of the ancient Fort of St. António da Cruz, near the Tamariz beach at Estoril (Cascais), following the style of medieval inspiration developed by the Italian architect Cesare Ianz. It is classified as a Monument of Public Interest (2023).
