Sculptures, 18th c., Palace of Queluz

2014 Conservation and Restoration

Conservation and restoration of six marble sculptures from the Garden of the National Palace of Queluz, Sintra. Work done by Eduardo do Carmo, stone conservator. These sculptures, produced in Italy, represent some figures from classical mythology, including:

  • Pomona, goddess of fruitful abundance (PNQ 3144),
  • Galateia, sea-nymph, one of the fifty Nereids (PNQ 3152/3153),
  • Diana, goddess of hunting, moon and chastity (PNQ 3155),
  • Bacchus, god of agriculture, wine and fertility (PNQ 3162),
  • Marine Animal (PNQ 3252).
