Staircase, 17th c., St.-Louis-of-the-French Church

2024 Preventive Conservation

Preparation of a preliminary report by Sandra Alves, conservator-restorer, to establish the most appropriate methodology for dismantling the staircase of the Saint-Louis-of-the-French Church* in Lisbon, with a view to the need to provide the Church with “conditions access for people with reduced mobility, through a ramp”, including this content:

  • generic technical and material contextualisation of the architectural element;
  • conservation status analysis;
  • explanation of the criteria that should govern the making of options;
  • methodology to be adopted for dismantling and subsequent packaging.

* The Saint-Louis-of-the-French Church is a church located in Beco de São Luís da Pena near Rua das Portas de Santo Antão in Lisbon. The church was founded in 1552, built in 1622, under the invocation of Saint Louis King of France, intended to serve as a place of worship for the French community residing in Lisbon.
