2018 Preventive Conservation

Consultancy on preventive conservation of the Pisani Burnay Masonic Collection*, from the collection of the Municipality of Sintra, in storage at the Palace of Regaleira, in Sintra. The work carried out included: conservation status diagnosis, photographic survey, inventory, storage and packaging of one of the largest European Masonic collections**.

* The Masonic collection includes 651 objects of various types, including: graphic documents (e.g. credentials, books and records); textile (e.g. cloaks, chlamydes, tunics, aprons, necklaces and ribbons); metal (e.g. pendant insignia, badges, medals, daggers, swords, compasses and heraldic shields); glass (e.g. glasses and bottles) and ceramics (e.g. tureens, plates and bowls). And other objects such as liturgical accessories, watches (pocket, wrist, table and wall), walking sticks, cufflinks, rings and wedding rings, wallets and other decorative and ornamental objects.
José Eduardo Pisani Burnay was a prominent figure in Masonic, where he was Sovereign Official Commander of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and president of the Supreme Council of High Degrees. He held this position in Portugal and abroad, and his work towards the legalization of Masonry in Eastern countries should be highlighted.
