Technical report on the conservation and restoration of a private building in Baixa Pombalina (Lisbon), done by Sandra Alves and Joana Shearman, conservator-restorers, which includes the dentification and characterization of the recognized surfaces, the state of conservation and, consequently, the methodological guidelines for the preservation of elements of heritage value, outside and inside the building, namely:
- outside: stonework, plaster, ceramics, metal and wood
- inside: stonework, stucco, mural painting, plasters, bricks, metal, wood and glass
This building includes two Stores with History with elements of cultural value to be preserved:
- The Confeitaria Nacional (Floors 0 and 1), one of the oldest Portuguese confectioneries, installed in 1829, by Baltazar Rodrigues Castanheiro, which maintains much of the ambience of the end of the 19th century, classified as a “Monument of Public Interest” (2020), still in activity.
- The “Goldsmith Barbosa Esteves" (Floors 0 and -1), classified as a “Monument of Public Interest” (2020); is one of the earliest and best preserved examples of Art Déco commercial architecture in Lisbon, now deactivated. Designed in 1927 by architects José Ângelo Cottinelli Telmo and Luís Alexandre Cunha, assisted by the engineering project of Abranches Couceiro, it constitutes a total work, in which both the exterior and the interior were considered.
