2006 Conservation and Restoration

Conservation and restoration of a set of liturgical implements (17th and 18th cs.) from the collection of the Church of Nossa Senhora das Salas* in Sines (Alentejo). The works were carried out in 2003 and 2006.

  • Gilded silver reliquary shaped as a monstrance (18th c.)
  • Gilded silver monstrance (18th c.)
  • Gilded silver chalice with paten (17th c.)
  • Gilded silver and silver chalice (18th c.)
  • Monstrance and reliquary in gilded silver (18th c.)
  • Two Ag crowns and one in Au with stones (18th c.)
  • Hand-bell in copper alloy, iron and silver (18th c.)
  • Silver Eucharist coffer (18th c.)

* The Church of Our Lady of Salas was a place where the fish was salted, a local industry from the Roman Period. From the former Salgas derives the place name Salas, in spite of the popular variant Salvas, due o a presumed miracle, attributed to Lady Bataça.
