Participant in the field of conservation and restoration of the industrial equipment - 1 diesel generator, 2 water generators, 3 dynamos, 1 electric board - of the Old Power Plant*, the first Museum Centre of the Cultural Complex of Levada de Tomar, opened in March 2020.
* The Power Plat of Levada de Tomar, classified as Public Interest Heritage, is inserted in one 20th c. building and preserves equipment which lead us to the interpretation of three forms of electric energy supply: hydraulic, steam and diesel
On July 1, 1901, the company Cardoso d'Argent opened the first power plant, built in the area of old mills of the Order of Christ and intended to supply electricity to 100 lamps of 16 candles in the city of Tomar. Then it was sold to Jean Bourdain e Cia., in 1909 the plant stopped working due to a great flood. The city's lighting was once again made of oil.
In 1910, it was sold to another company Mendes Godinho, with the purpose of also feeding the milling A Portuguesa. In 1916, the company expanded the plant, which received new equipment. In the 1950s, the concession ended, with the plant only working for the mentioned company and the city of Tomar became linked to the supply of the Castelo de Bode dam. ©
