Participant in the opening of the Interpretative Centre of the City of Évora*, installed in the Palace of Dom Manuel**, in the historic centre of Évora. The participation of Archeofactu was limited to the execution of replicas of original pieces from the collection of the National Museum of Frei Manuel do Cenáculo (Évora), namely:
- Coat of Arms of the City of Évora, 1513-16 (Inv. ME1744);
- Tombstone with double inscription, 10th-12th cs. (Inv. ME1845);
- Lead pipe, 1-2 cs. (Inv. ME3228);
- Sculpture of Efebo in bronze 1st-2nd cs. (Inv. ME4462).
* The Centre was conceived around an idea about the reasons why the Historic Centre of Évora was considered a Cultural Heritage of Humanity (Unesco, 1986). Through documents, artefacts, images, sounds and multimedia resources, the way in which the city has evolved over 20 centuries of history is documented, using a dramatic and sound trail, where music, poetry, stories or short dramatised fictions allow establishing a connection between this centre and the city. ©
**The Dom Manuel Palace, located in Évora, formerly known as the Royal Palace of S. Francisco, was built (15th c.) by D. Afonso V, who wanted to have a royal palace outside the castle in order to be installed in the city. The palace, inhabited by several Portuguese monarchs, including D. Manuel I, D. João III and D. Sebastião, was permanently lost in 1895, after having been destroyed in 1619 by Filipe III. In 2021, the palace underwent a remodelling and adaptation intervention, according to an architectural project by Sofia Aleixo and Vítor Mestre, featuring on the ground floor the Interpretative Centre of the City of Évora and on the upper floor an area for holding temporary exhibitions.
