Abstract
The preservation of numismatic collections requires the adoption of best practices to minimize coin degradation and ensure the conservation of their historical and aesthetic integrity. Proper display and storage conditions, careful handling, and appropriate cleaning techniques are three fundamental pillars of their preservation. This paper briefly outlines the main guidelines for numismatic collection preservation, presenting examples of corrosion and illustrating the results of conservation treatments on coins from the Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda collection, while emphasizing the importance of specialized conservation approaches..
