2015 Conservation and Restoration

Conservation and restoration of the tiles of the Sacristy from the Chapel of Our Lady of Remédios*. Work done by Teresa Silva, conservator-restorer of tiles.

* Currently functioning as a mortuary chapel, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, in Alfama, dates back to the fishermen of this historic quarter of Lisbon and to the worship of the Holy Spirit. Built in the 16c. (c. 1517), was the head quarters of the brotherhood of Our Lady of Remédios, which merged in the 17c., with the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit, until then installed in the Church of São Miguel in Alfama, as well. The chapel was remodelled in the reign of the Portuguese King John V [1689-1750] and restored after the earthquake of 1755.
