Hipparion Gracile, Miocene, Santiago do Cacém

2019 Replicas and Reproductions

Execution of a fossil replica of a jaw fragment with teeth of a hipparion gracile* found in Monte Novo (Sado Valley, Santiago do Cacém, Alentejo), from the collection of the Geological Museum (Lisboa), of the Portuguese National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG). This work was carried out without touching the original object by using 3D modeling and printing technology.

* Hipparion gracile is an extinct kind of horse that lived in the fields of Europe, Asia, North America and Africa during the Miocene to the end of the Pliocene, up to about 5 million to 2 million years ago.
