Ceramic artefacts, Prehistory, Sintra

2012 Conservation and Restoration

Treatment of ceramic archaeological artefacts, from distinct prehistoric periods (Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age), with different types and finishes, from excavations carried out in the Moorish Castle (Sintra). Some objects are on display at the Castelo dos Mouros Interpretation Centre, housed in the former Church of São Pedro de Canaferrim (12th c), the first parish church in Sintra. The Moorish Castle is a National Monument (1910) integrated in the Cultural Landscape of Sintra, World Heritage Site (Unesco, 1995). Of the objects treated, the following are included:

  • Decorated edges (9) and spoon (Neolithic).
  • Decorated edges (8) and faired cups (2) (Bronze Age).
  • Cup fragments and a shale plate (Chalcolithic).
