Lisbon Now, Musical Performance

2011 Event

Realization of the musical performance LISBON NOW, specially produced for the International Council of Museums - Committee for Conservation (ICOM-CC) 16th Triennial Conference, held at the Lisbon Congress Center, between 19 and 23 of September, 2011. The show, which took place in the main auditorium of the Cultural Centre of Belém, was organized by the Sons da Lusofonia Association.
The performance was an illustrated slideshow of present day Lisbon by the musician Carlos Martins, based on a geography of emotions that interlace friendships and musical styles. A journey which begins in the cradle of civilisation, Asia (India, Middle East), and expands outwards through the Mediterranean to the Iberian Peninsula and Lisbon and, through Portuguese maritime exploration, to the entire world. You hear sounds influenced by the East, by Africa, Brazil and Portugal. But also European-influenced jazz and Latin American tango, in the aim of travelling to various “places” which flow into music’s universal heritage through the inspiration of the artists invited. Because there is also a universal side, a place free of boundaries, to each of the artists invited. It is this specific “place” which is mankind’s great achievement.
